Radical Identity
It is known that Identity Theft is the number one crime in the world. It is a terrible crime.  The victim’s identity is stolen and the thief literally has all the information necessary to pose as genuine.  The Bible says; the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy.   The thief is the devil and He is a Master poser. Is it any wonder that he (the devil) has the information and the power to steal the identity of many of God’s children.

Your identity comes from the source of who created you and the one who birthed you. The Bible clearly says that as children of God we are fearfully and wonderfully made. The Bible also tells us that God designed each of us before the foundation of the world.

God is our Creator and each of us has a unique fingerprint that is totally unlike any other human being.  This is living proof that you are special and there is no-one like you in the earth. Also, it is an indication that we actually have no power to change our identity. It is stamped on us and within us.  Your fingerprint tells you who you are from God’s perspective and identifies you for those who use fingerprinting as a means of identification.

You can change your looks and even your sex, but your fingerprint tells the true story and declares for us the true identity.

Identity is also one of the tensions of our generation. We have a vast amount of people in the US without an Identity Card. I want to link this to believers in Christ. Our identity is a tension. Maybe we have failed to know our existence and we have failed to live a life that matches our God-given identity.

Then there is the reality that we have an identity thief called Satan that is trying to constantly steal our real identity and convince us that we are what God clearly says.  Satan is also constantly trying to defame and deface God on all fronts.  We must also be aware of this attack.

I have listed several scriptures below to reveal your identity and genesis.

Psalm 139:13-14
For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;[a]
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.

I am God’s child (John 12:2)

I belong to God (I Corinthians 6:20)

I am born of God (I John 5:18)

God has plans for my life (Jeremiah 29:11)

I am adopted by God (Ephesians 1:5)

I was chosen before the creation of the world (Ephesians 1:4)

It is proven that your identity can be stolen.  Let’s look at a few places where people’s identities were stolen or surrendered.

1.  Adam and Eve – Genesis 3
The Identity Thief (the Devil) has multiple strategies to cause us to question or surrender our identity. Our first introduction to Satan in the scripture is we see him stealing the identity of Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve began their life in intimacy with God.  God was walking and talking with them every day.  Then the day came when the devil shows up and begins to convince Adam and Eve that God was holding out on them.  Satan convinces them to reject God.  When they reject God through distrust, their identity is totally changed.  Beware of believing the liar, Satan.

2.  Gideon – Judges 6
Gideon was a believer that was believing the lies of his circumstances.  God had empowered Gideon to defeat his enemies but He failed to take God at his word. Gideon was living according to his circumstances rather than God’s empowerment. Let me help you here.  One of the main strategies of the devil is to order circumstances that look overwhelming. We then begin to blame God for hurts, wounds, trauma, and disappointments.  The moment we begin to allow circumstances to define us is the moment we begin to lose our God-given identity.

We are living in a day where life, pain, and Satan are on an identity theft rampage.  Some of us are so confused we simply want to become another person.  Some even desire to change their gender identity . Can I so boldly make a suggestion?  Rather than take your identity into your own hands would you consider asking the God of heaven to heal your heart and reveal your true identity to you from His perspective.

Unfortunately none of us have the ability to choose our preferred gender. The reason is because you cannot make yourself!  God originally made you and God can re-make you.  If you want to be re-made then ask the original creator to make you new.

This renewal happens by asking Christ into your life. When you ask Christ into your life this is the miracle that occurs..Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.  II Corinthians 5:17
